The eternal question for anyone new to the world of cloud computing is, “Which cloud should I start learning?” In the past, the answer was clear — AWS. Amazon was the leader in the cloud service provider market because it was one of the first to start creating such services.

But how does it look today?

According to a Statista report, Amazon still leads in terms of market share in the cloud infrastructure sector.

This should not be surprising, considering how long AWS has been in the market.

However, to predict the potential future of cloud service providers in the coming years, we should look at this from the perspective of quarterly growth every year and analyze which cloud provider has seen the most dynamic growth recently.

Comparing data from the third quarter of 2024 with data from 2023 and previous years, we can see a significant increase in Microsoft Azure’s market share.

The growth of cloud providers such as Google Cloud, AWS, and Microsoft Azure is largely driven by the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and their implementation within cloud AI/ML services.

Key solutions that could influence growth in these three leading clouds include:

  • Amazon Bedrock, which enables easy deployment and customization of foundation models from providers such as Anthropic (Claude), AI21 Labs, Stability AI, and its own Titan AI.
  • Azure OpenAI Service, which provides access to GPT-4, DALL-E, Codex, and other OpenAI models with integration within the Microsoft ecosystem (e.g., Copilot for Office 365 and GitHub Copilot).
  • Google Cloud Vertex AI + Gemini AI, a fully managed platform for creating AI models, including access to Google’s Gemini and PaLM 2 models.

Which cloud is the most popular in job listings?

Job listings in February 2025 reflect what is shown in the statistics.

I check the number of job offers based on popular Polish job posting website focused on IT jobs https://justjoin.it/.

What I found is:

  • over 3000 job offers requiring AWS cloud knowledge (2940 results for AWS, 218 results for Amazon Web Service),
  • around 2863 offers for Azure cloud,
  • about 2500 offers for GCP cloud (1491 results for GCP, 1063 results for Google Cloud).

Which cloud to choose?

In summary, it is difficult to predict what the market will look like in the coming years. It is worth keeping an eye on the development of AI-based technologies and increasing prices within each provider. Knowledge of Amazon is a good choice, but Azure and Google clouds have significant growth potential in the future and may surpass or match Amazon’s market share.

Knowing at least two, ideally three, of the top clouds opens up vast opportunities in terms of job hunting and also reduces competition during the recruitment process.
